The purpose of the League of Women Voters of Carrollton and Carroll County is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government and to act on selected governmental issues. We do not support or oppose any political party or candidate. The LWV is a non partisan, issue driven organization that supports voters as active participants in the democratic process. We endeavor to encourage informed voting, and in that, to be more knowledgeable and more actively involved in the decisions made by our elected officials in Carrollton, Carroll County, at the state of Georgia level, and at the United States federal government level. The LWV C-CC promotes political responsibility specifically by targeting issues of concern, researching information, examining facts, engaging in civil discourse, and making informed votes. We make democracy work by using democratic processes to address issues. The League is about coming together to find answers to contemporary concerns and striving for greater participation by the American people.
Nationally founded in 1920, the League was built on the historic gains of the suffrage movement by educating, encouraging and uniting disengaged citizens in becoming active and informed participants in democracy. The League has advanced an integrated plan to strengthen democracy at every level.

Saturday Luncheon Meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month. These are 'dutch-treat' lunches held locally. We have speakers on various topics of interest to members and the local community. (Please email us to find out specific locations and topics.)
Monday Night Program Items Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month, generally from 7-9 pm. Through local study, discussion and vote, Program Items are chosen for their specific impact on our community. (Please email us to find out specific locations and topics.)
Candidate Forums are held as needed before elections. They are one of the most important efforts of our local League. In a Candidate Forum, a moderator directs panelists to ask the candidates questions. Audience members may also write questions and submit them to be asked by the moderator.
Great Decisions has been a part of the League for about 15 years. Co-hosted with the Carrollton Rotary for the last 3 years, it promotes citizen awareness and discussion about timely foreign policy issues. Developed by the Foreign Policy Association, nationally it is the oldest and largest grassroots educational program on world affairs. Our knowledgeable speakers, most often professors from University of West Georgia, give their time and expertise. Great Decisions is a series that takes place in the winter months. (Please email us to find out specific locations and topics.)
